Why Fly Ash Bricks?

Looking towards the rising demands and increasing cost of conventional red bricks, we have come up with the substitute that is known as fly ash bricks. By keeping in mind the environmental concern, these are manufactured using waste material that is accumulated in large quantity near thermal power plants and creating serious environmental pollution problems. The utilization of waste material as main raw material in the manufacturing process of bricks does not only create ample opportunities for its proper and useful disposal but also helps in environmental pollution control to a greater extent in the surrounding areas of power plants. The Ministry of Environment and Forest Government of India has issued notification number S.O.763 (E), dated 14.09.1999 and the same is revised for every construction agency, which is engaged in the construction of buildings within a radius of 50 - 100 km from coal or lignite based thermal power plants. The notification says that these agencies must use fly ash bricks in the construction work as per the following minimum percentage (by volume) of the total bricks, Blocks and tiles, as the case may be, used in each construction project, namely:

• 25% by 31st August 2004
• 50% by 31st August 2005
• 75% by 31st August 2006
• 100% by 31st August 2007

The raw material that is required for manufacturing fly ash brick are as follows:

• Fly ash
• Stone grit
• Crushed sand
• Cement or lime
